Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered outside the gate.  Therefore, let us go forth to him outside the camp, bearing his reproach.  For we have no continuing city here, but we seek one to come.

LOVING THROUGH LOVE

From conversations with Preacher Clark in the late 1970s

You can only love people through the love they have within themselves. If they have none, your love is not going to get through to them, no matter how much you try. But people who have a lot of love in their hearts are so easy to love! That is what Preacher Clark taught us. If someone has no love for you in his heart, you are wasting your time trying to love him, for someone without love inside has no receptor for the love that others show him.

“A man who has friends must show himself friendly,” wrote Solomon (Prov. 18:24). It may be that we are merely restating that wisdom when we say, “A man who would be loved must first have love within himself.”
