Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered outside the gate.  Therefore, let us go forth to him outside the camp, bearing his reproach.  For we have no continuing city here, but we seek one to come.

Prayer Meeting Notes from Rebekah, Part Twenty One:
Second Opinions

“About four years ago, I put a piece of notebook paper in my Bible on which to write down things said during the meetings that really stood out to me.”
Rebekah Joy

“We keep asking for advice until we get what we want. What do you want?”

(When Jesus answers you, is that good enough, or do you keep seeking other opinions?)

Getting a “second opinion” may be prudent when dealing with a medical issue, but it can be deadly when dealing with the Lord – even if the “second opinion” you seek is from God Himself! Balaam, you will remember, went back to God for another answer after God had spoken to him quite clearly about a matter. Balaam didn’t like the answer God gave him the first time. Amazingly, Balaam did get a different answer from God, the one he wanted, but it eventually cost him his soul.

Everyone in the world who wants to live forever keeps asking for the right way to serve God until they find the answer they prefer. But only those who are from the heart after the truth will find it and then hold it dear. Everyone else will only stop looking when they find a form of religion that satisfies their personal preferences.

If God condescends from heaven to give us mortals an answer about anything, be wise enough to receive it gladly. Pray for that kind of wisdom. God is always on our side, trying to help us, and if we knew everything, as He does, we would know that the first answer He gives us is always our best hope for eternal life and peace.
