Thought for the Morning
It was on December 25th that Jesus baptized my 81-year-old mother-in-law with the holy Ghost and fire, with the evidence of speaking in tongues. It was the first time that any of us had prayed with her for that blessing, but it was, as we soon learned, not at all the first time that she had prayed.
The lesson I learned as I pondered over this wonderful event was this: If a person is seeking the Lord, he does not have to advertise it; God knows all about it, and, after all, He is the only one who really matters. My mother-in-law had been praying a lot lately, but she had been doing her praying (without knowing the Scripture) the way Jesus told us all to pray: in secret, alone to God. If we do that, Jesus promised, God will reward us openly. He certainly rewarded my mother-in-law openly as she sat in my office listening to some of the music God has given to us. She was really filled! I believe if she had been sixty years younger, she would have been turning flips.
Yes, God knows. That is our hope, and our only hope of salvation. But then, it is all the hope we need.
That has got to be one of the most wonderful and beautiful sights I have ever seen. I just can't get over it. I loved when she put her hands over her head so she could hear herself speaking in tongues (if that is why she was doing that). I assumed she was because I did the same thing when I got the holy Ghost. Oh! But she is 81! Amazing! I know from Barbara and Ellen's point of view what a wonderful, sweet, words-can't-describe-it time that was, to see the Lord give their mother the holy Ghost! God is good!!
